Following the recent news about Fnatic acquiring an Overwatch roster, one more giant eSports organisation, TSM, announced their acquisition of a roster.
Anthony “harbleu” Ballo as Flex, Jake “torkTJO” Lepoff and Nicolas “NicolasTJO” Aubin as DPS, Joey “Jkw” Wavering as Tank, and finally, Joe “Joemeister” Gramano and Jack “Shake” Kaplan as Support, the former roster of Gale Force eSports, which qualified for Beyond the Summit’s Overwatch Cup, finished second in the BEAT Invitational, and took placed third in iBUYPOWER’s Summer Invitational under the name of Code7, will try to bring in Overwatch the same acclaim the TSM organisation enjoys in League of Legends.
The announcement was made just in time for the team to start trying to qualify for ELEAGUE’s Overwatch Open, which was announced recently. The Qualifiers started on July 23rd. The tournament will have a prize pool of $300,000 and the Grand Final will air live on TBS.
While the Overwatch eSports scene is underdeveloped, the presence of big name eSports brands should make the fans of competitive Overwatch hopeful for the future. Obviously, these orgs see potential in the game. It turns out, that a mainstream television channel also sees Overwatch as a worthwhile gamble to make. Hopefully, it is a success.
