Usually, the post-season break in League of Legends is full of speculation, rumors, and high impact roster moves. This year, it’s dialed to the max because of the huge reorganization that’s hitting the NA LCS. With four new teams coming into the league looking to spend to make an impact, it’s completely understandable.
Two of the legendary NA LCS teams, Counter Logic Gaming and Team SoloMid, have already revealed their rosters for the 2018 season.
CLG will run with Darshan “Darshan” Upadhyaya in the top lane, Kim “Reignover” Yeu-jin will try to get back to his dastardly ways in the jungle, Choi “Huhi” Jae-hyun and Trevor “Stixxay” Hayes will return as the mid and ADC respectively, while Vincent “Biofrost” Wang will join the team as Support.
With Zaqueri “Aphromoo” Black leaving the team, this new CLG lineup will lack something that has been synonymous with the CLG brand for a long time. The veteran support has been the team’s shotcaller for a long time. With Biofrost unlikely to step in, a lot of responsibility is likely to fall on Reignover’s shoulders.
CLG’s biggest rivals, Team SoloMid, also went through a significant roster overhaul. Only two players from the last Split roster, Kevin “Hauntzer” Yarnell and Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg stayed on the team. The jungle role was filled by the 2017 Rookie of the Year, Mike Yeung, while the bot lane was taken up by the legendary dynamic duo from Europe, Jesper “Zven” Svenningsen and Alfonso “mithy” Aguirre Rodríguez.
This is an exciting move for the Team SoloMid brand. While MikeYeung’s relative inexperience in the pro scene could spell trouble for the team, the player is also extremely gifted. Surrounded by four veterans, he should be able to get up to speed faster than ever.
Speaking of veterans, TSM’s new bot lane has been one of the hottest commodities in this year’s signing fever. Zven and mithy have proven themselves over multiple seasons. It’s a fact that they can work together very well. Zven is one of a small number of AD Carries who wouldn’t be a downgrade from Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng, while mithy is much more experienced and simply better than Biofrost.
All in all, this new TSM team seems to be better than it used to be on paper, which isn’t easy to achieve by any means.
