Coming into the European League of Legends Championship Series the hard way, by placing first in the European Challenger Series and knocking out Schalke 04 to make it into the LCS and making the football club’s eSports department to swallow a bitter pill, Misfits understandably wanted to spiff up their roster with some higher caliber players to not be thought of as a joke in the 2017 EU LCS Spring Split.
While the team kept a part of their roster, meaning their Top Laner Barney “Alphari” Morris, AD Carry Steven “Hans” Liv, and Support Lee “IgNar” Dong-geun, they signed a couple of well-know players to play the Jungle and Mid Lane roles. We’ve already reported that the former Origen Mid, Tristan “PowerOfEvil” Schrage signed with Misfits. Now, it’s our pleasure to inform you that the team also found a new Jungler, Lee “KaKAO” Byung-kwon.
The Korean Jungler, aged 21, comess to Europe with a wealth of experience earned playing both in Korea and China. KaKAO’s career started in October 2012, when he joined the KT Rolster organization, playing for its B and A teams, as well as Bullets and Arrows. Part of the Korean Exodus to China after the 2014 World Championship, KaKAO sought his fortunes on Invictus Gaming for a year. While not overly successful, KaKAO placed 4th and 3rd in the LPL Spring and Summer Splits, qualifying for the World Championship 2015. IG didn’t make it past the group stage.
Following the disappoint 2015 season, KaKAO left Invictus Gaming for Wan Yoo Dream in January, 2016. It went disastrously, the team placed 13th in LPL Spring and lost their relegation matches against Star Horn Royal Club. Not about to give up, the owners of the team purchased a spot in the LPL and tried again, only come in 10th, having to fight in the promotion tournament once again. This time, however, Wan Yoo Dream managed to stay in the LPL. Not up to another nailbiter, KaKAO got out of the team and decided to try his luck in the EU LCS, on Misfits.
Once upon a time, KaKAO was in the conversation about the best Junglers in the world.following the disastrous year in China, however, he will probably have to prove himself to still have what it takes to compete against Europe’s superstar Jungler Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski and the like. Hopefully, the presence of KaKAO in the region can due to EU LCS Junglers what Kim “Reignover” Ui-jin did to both EU and NA when he played here, pwning his opponents so bad that they were forced to get better or face humiliation in front of hundred of thousands of people.
