Immortals Reportedly Sign Dardoch, Are Planning To Try Out GorillA and Piccaboo

December 2, 2016 - News

After a couple of amazingly successful NA LCS Regular Splits followed by inexplicable choking in the Playoffs, the powerhouse Immortals roster of  Heo “Huni” Seung-hoon, Kim “Reignover” Ui-jin, Eugene “Pobelter” Park, Jason “WildTurtle” Tran, and Adrian “Adrian” Ma has shattered. Even before the preseason market moves started in force, Noah Whinston, Immortals’ CEO announced that the team is allowing players to be approached by other teams, even if they were still signed to IMT. So far, three players out of the 2016 Immortals lineup found homes elsewhere. Huni is signed to SK Telecom T1, Reignover is the new Jungler for Team Liquid, while Adrian is in the enviable position of Phoenix1 building a team around him. As for the final two players, WildTurtle played for Team SoloMid at IEM XI Oakland and is reported to try out for Team Dignitas, while Pobelter has offers from an unnamed team, Immortals and, if the Keith leak is to be believed, Echo Fox.

That is a dire situation indeed, however, it was made more optimistic when ESPN’s Jacob Wolf published a report, quoting unnamed sources (protecting your sources is obligatory in mainstream journalism), saying that Joshua “Dardoch” Hartnett is set to sign with Immortals, with both teams essentially swapping Junglers. Also mentioned in Wolf’s report was that Immortals are currently bootcamping in South Korea with Cody “Massacre” Sun, the former AD Carry for Dream Team, while also trying out Kang “GorillA” Beom-hyeon and Lee “Piccaboo” Jong-Beom, who are both counted among the best Supports in the world.

While getting Dardoch is a slight downgrade from Reignover due to the young American saying that he learned a lot from the Korean Jungler, getting GorillA or Piccaboo would be a clean sweep improvement over Adrian, who has been having his champion pool brought into question over the 2016 season. It certainly looked like the guy was only able to play three or four champions, Soraka, Janna, Nami, and Karma.

Assuming that Massacre and one of the Korean Supports meet Immortals’ expectations, they will still need to find a Top and Mid, unless they can convince Pobelter to play for them for another year. In the stream recording that has been leaked on Reddit recently, Pobelter is heard saying that while he has two offers from teams, the money offered is insulting, so he’s waiting to talk to Echo Fox in order to figure out his market value. It’s hard to tell what Pobelter is going to do, but looking from the Immortals perspective, he’s one of the best Mid Lane options outside of Korea. Getting him to come back would be a very good thing.

The Immortals roster is only starting to come together so far. It remains to be seen if the team can continue their Regular season domination streak, maybe even improving their Playoff choking due to a more or less new coaching staff and player roster. The story lines provided by Immortals are too interesting for the team to wallow in mediocrity. Hopefully, they can get a kickass team together and pwn some les noobs in the 2017 NA LCS Spring Split. There is time before the LCS starts. Let’s wait and see.
