ELEAGUE Announces Overwatch Tournament

July 25, 2016 - Esports, News

On Jully 22, ELEAGUE, in partnership with Turner, WME | IMG, and FACEIT, announced their intention to host an Overwatch tournament with a prize pool of $300,000, the biggest payout to date in Overwatch.

The online portion of the tournament will take place on FACEIT, where European and North American teams will try to earn their place in the Regional and Grand Finals, held at the ELEAGUE arena in Atlanta, Georgia.

While most of the tournament will be available for viewing on Twitch.tv, the Grand Final will be broadcast on TBS as well. The matches being played out on TV should expose Overwatch to a great new audience, while also giving the game a certain amount of legitimacy as an eSports. Provided that the event is a success, of course.

The European and North American online phase on the FACEIT platform began on July 23. This stage of the tournament will end with the playoffs to be played Friday through Sunday, August 26-28. The top eight teams from each region will advance to the Finals.
