NEW CHAMPION: Kled, The Cantankerous Cavalier

Ladies and gentlemen, the Yordle invasion continues. With Gnar being the last Yordle champion to be released back in August 2014, the game was missing some pizzazz for a while. Unfortunately for all, only Yordles can bring it. If you’re like me, you will happy to hear that the the next upcoming League of Legends champion is going to be a Yordle named Kled, The Cantankerous Cavalier.

Somewhat similar to Kindred, but amped up to the nines, Kled has a pet too. Different from Kindred, however, the Yordles gameplay absolutely revolves around his “mount”, Skaarl. The mount has its own health bar, taking damage instead of Kled when he trusts his rider. Items, runes, and masteries affect Skaarl just as much as they help Kled himself. The problem is that the mount is quite a coward. Once its health gets reduced to zero, he runs away, leaving Kled to fight alone, increasing his movement speed when heading towards enemies. Kled’s abilities change until he can inspire Skaarl to come back by attacking towers, champions, or epic monsters. That’s basically how Kled’s Passive, Skaarl the Cowardly Lizzard, works.

Next up is Kled’s Q. It has two modes, Mounted and Unmounted. When Kled is riding Skaarl, the ability is called Beartrap on a Rope. Kled throws an actual beartrap, which passes through units, dealing damage to all of them, until it hits an enemy champion, attaching to it. After a couple of seconds, if the champion hit doesn’t outrange the rope (similar to Morgana’s Ult, I guess?), Kled will pull the enemy to himself, while applying a slow and some damage. When Skaarl had run away, Kled’s Q is called Pocket Pistol. It’s a skillshot, which knocks Kled back, similar to Caitlyn’s E, and deals some damage.

Kled’s W, Violent Tendencies, function somewhat similar to Vayne’s Silver Bolts. The Yordle’s auto attacks cause him to frenzy, gaining attack speed for the next four basic attacks, with the fourth frenzied auto dealing bonus % max health damage. Basically, when Vayne’s third AA procs silver bolts, Kled needs 4, while also gaining attack speed on the way. From what I gather, you don’t need to AA the same target to get the fourth attack bonus.

Kled’s E, Jousting, only works when mounted on Skaarl. When activated, they dash toward a targeted area, damaging any enemies they hit and gaining movement speed. If Kled hits a champion or large monster on the way, you can reactivate the ability to dash back through the target, dealing damage again. This ability can be used to stay mobile in the fight, going as ham as possible, with the possibility of getting out if you bite off more than you can chew.

Finally, Kled’s Ultimate, CHAAAAAAAARGE!!! only works when Skaarl trusts you enough to stay by you. When activated, Skaarl start rolling like Sonic, with Kled somehow staying on top of it. They charge (duh) towards a targeted location, charging a shield and boosting movement speed of any allies who follow them (similar to Janna’s Passive or Sivir Ult). Skaarl will home onto the first enemy it encounters, smashing into them and dealing % max health damage.

Obviously, Kled is at his strongest when Skaarl trusts him enough to stick around, so gameplay should be centered around maximizing two things – Skaarl’s trust in you and Violent Tendencies, to make sure you chunk the right target. It’s supposed to be best as a 1v1 Skirmisher or a split-push stopper, as it’s very hard to disengage from Kled due to his mounted Q and E. In teamfights, he CAN engage with his Ult, however, you should make sure that you have your team behind you, as Kled isn’t really a tank, it’s not made to go 1v5.
