The International 2016 Main Event Day 5 Preview

August 15, 2016 - Esports

With EHOME, the team which surprised everyone by massively overperforming in The International 6, and Team Liquid, the squad which was supposed to be one of the best but had massive difficulties, finally ending their run in 7th/8th place, Day 5 will show the team, which will compete in the Grand Final from the Upper Bracket, while also determining who the opponent in the Lower Bracket Final will be over three matches.

First up, MVP, dropped from the Upper Bracket after losing to Wings Gaming, will try to not lose against Fnatic, which eliminated Alliance and Liquid to make it this far after a disastrous start of the tournament over the first two days of the Group Stage.

While the match is very hard to call, I would like MVP Phoenix to win, to be honest. Call me set in my ways, but I just don’t like Fnatic. Yes, they beat some very good teams, but MVP actually threw down against OG and only lost to Wings Gaming, which has played very well in the later parts of the tournament. It has to be said, however, that the storylines would be great if Fnatic won and move on, maybe even earning themselves a spot in the Grand Final.

Up next, we have Wings Gaming, the last top 4 team according to various power rankings, to still be in the running to win the tournament, against one of the most impressive upset machines in The International 6, Evil Geniuses. Dammit, I like both teams, so it’s very hard to choose, but I would have to guess that Wings Gaming is going to win this match. Thankfully, even if they do, EG won’t be out of the tournament just yet. Instead, they will move to the Lower Bracket Final, where they will fight against the winner of the match between Digital Chaos and the winner of the Fnatic vs. MVP match.

Speaking of the match between Digital Chaos and the winner of the MVP vs. Fnatic match, there can be two scenarios in my mind. If MVP faces Digital Chaos, they will probably win, moving to the Lower Bracket Final. However, if Fnatic is the one to stop DC’s advancement, I do expect, or just blindly hope that they will lose. My scepticism towards Fnatic has no real reason, I’m sure they are a tremendous team. I just don’t like them. I’m sure you have a team you don’t like for no reason at all too.
