After five weeks of exciting CS:GO, we have the two best teams ready to compete for the $500,000 USD which will go to the winner of ELEAGUE CS:GO Premier 2017. Afer gruelling battles in the Group Stage and in the Playoffs, Astralis and FaZe Clan have made it onto the Grand Finals stage, where they will try to be the team not affected by Friday the 13th curse.
Both the current iteration of Astralis and FaZe Clan can safely be put into the Top 4 of the best CS:GO teams in the world. Astralis has been there for a very long time and especially since their triumph at the ELEAGUE Major back in January, while FaZe Clan has entered the discussion after signing Olof “olofmeister” Kajbjer of Fnatic and Ladislav “GuardiaN” Kovács of Natus VIncere.
On their way to the Grand Finals, both Astralis and FaZe Clan had to go through some awesome teams. FaZe Clan were in a group with G2 Esports and Natus Vincere. Quite quickly, they proved themselves superior to Na’Vi at least, defeating them in the Winners’ Match and making their way into the Playoffs, the first team to qualify in the tournament. Astralis were no less contested in their groups battle. They were faced with SK Gaming, Team Liquid, and Heroic. Normally, it should have been a battle between SK, TL, and Astralis, but Heroic forcefully put itself in the conversation after crushing SK Gaming not once, but twice.
In the Playoffs, Astralis had more trouble making it to the Grand Finals than FaZe Clan. The Danish team’s Quarterfinals started somewhat easily, they won against Fnatic 2-0. After that, they were matched up against the American Cloud9 team which has been on the rise in recent times. The Danes actually had some trouble against their opponents in the first map, finding themselves losing the first half despite winning pistols. Despite losing the first map, they still managed to recover and made it to the Finals.
FaZe Clan was matched against Team EnVyUs in the Quarterfinals. Understandably, they didn’t really have much trouble defeating them, winning the match 2-0 and moving on to face North. There, FaZe also remained sure-footed, though the games weren’t really blowouts by any means as North did manage to pick up double-digits numbers of points in both maps.
With all of that said, who’s going to win in this Grand Final of the ELEAGUE CS:GO Premier 2017? We are leaning towards FaZe Clan as the new rising star team. It seems like they are finding their groove on the server and the sheer potential of their players means that FaZe Clan might just turn out to be the best CS:GO team in the world. Astralis, on the other hand, is not the same team we saw at the beginning of the year when they were victorious in the ELEAGUE event. We certainly hope that the familiar surroundings will help them channel the juju to get back to their top form and give us a match we will never forget.
