ESL One Cologne 2016, the second Major this year, was a very exciting tournament, with plenty of upsets, close matches, and dominating blowouts. Team Liquid surprised the CS:GO world by upsetting Natus Vincere and Fnatic to reach the Grand Final, where they lost to the best team in the world, SK Gaming. One of the architects of Team Liquid’s playoff run was its in-game leader and lurker, Spencer “Hiko” Martin. While he wasn’t the one running in, getting multiple entry kills to rip his enemies apart, he was the one who held together the placeholder lineup with only several weeks of practice.
Several months ago, the best player in the Liquid squad, Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev left the team out of homesickness (he’s Ukrainian, while Team Liquid is based in the USA). Hiko noted, that while he was very good friends with Oleksandr, the superstar lost all respect for his teammates.
With ECS Finals and ESL One Cologne looming in the recent future, Team Liquid made some moves, trading their AWPer Kenneth “koosta” Suen for CLG’s Josh “jdm64” Marzano and getting s1mple to return to stand in for Jacob “Pimp” Winneche, who couldn’t play for Liquid in the two events due to roster rules. With s1mple back on the roster, the leader of the team, Hiko, had a tall task ahead of him. Managing team dynamics and difficult personalities (s1mple is rumored to be quite hard to work with) while also having to think of what to do on the fly and performing up to standards in order to defeat the best teams in the world, is a monumental task. Hiko is a beast. Figuring out which skins a beast uses is certainly interesting, don’t you think? I certainly do.
Here’s the list of all skins I noticed Hiko use in ESL One Cologne 2016. To see more info, click the skin name.
