M19, a famous CIS eSport org from the past, has ensured financial backing and acquired one of the most successful CIS League of Legends rosters, the former Albus NoX Luna. ANX surprised the whole world by performing above expectations at the LoL World Championship 2016 as an International Wildcard team. In other news, the EULCS team, Vitality, snagged a very nice non-endemic sponsor by securing support from Adidas. Let’s discuss more.
Albus NoX Luna blew everyone’s minds at the 2016 Worlds by getting a couple of huge upsets despite being heavy underdogs as an International Wildcard, which is usually known to be a free win for most LoL teams which qualify for the tournament in the traditional manner. Of course, once they were paired to play against H2k-Gaming in the Playoffs, they got swept away, however, the fact of the matter is that for the first time in the tournament they had the respect of an LCS team. Who knows, if H2K didn’t take them seriously enough, we might have had another upset on our hands.
After Worlds, the team made some roster changes, the crowd favorite player of the team, Kirill “Likkrit”Malofeev announced free agency. Now, with new sponsors backing them, M19 bought the team out and is looking to continue dominating the CIS region in League of Legends. In the official statement on M19’s website, the team’s jungler, Alexander “PvPStejos”Glazkov said:
“We’re pretty happy that we were able to join M19 in 2017. The competition is getting fiercer every year, all of the players spend precious time playing games to achieve their goals. We’ve set the long-term goals and are going to work hard. M19 is a step forward for all of us and an organisation we can work for a long time and develop ourselves.”
On the other side of Europe, Team Vitality has ensured the support of adidas France. This deal is the second in a row, where the sportswear company is getting into the eSports scene, after their logo was shown on the jerseys of North, the org created by F.C. Copenhagen’s eSports team. Team Vitality is also sponsored by Burn Controllers, Xbox One, Dailymotion, Steelseries, Canal+, and Omen by HP. With the deal with adidas, the team is gaining a lot of support for themselves. Unfortunately, the deal with adidas is reportedly valid for a single year, probably due to the uncertain nature of eSports ventures.
