Last Week in Esports: There Were How Many Overtimes?!

Over the last week, Feb. 19 - 25, a lot of stuff all over the world of esports happened. League of Legends, CS:GO, Dota 2, Overwatch League, matches were going all over the place. Keeping up with everything can be very hard but we’re here to give you a short summary of all the action that made us jump from our seats last week.

CS:GO

StarLadder & i-League StarSeries Season 4

In a plot twist deserving of a Hollywood movie, mousesports managed to get ahead of teams like FaZe Clan, Natus Vincere, SK Gaming, G2 Esports and Team Liquid to win the whole event.

The most interesting match of the tournament was the 3rd place battle between Team Liquid and FaZe Clan.

In the first map, Liquid won handily and seemed to be headed in the same direction in the first half of map two. FaZe players had to work like they’ve never worked before to get themselves out of the dump they found themselves in.

And they did, forcing Overtime in the process. That’s where the real action began. The two teams played four OT halves and FaZe Clan finally won 28-26, forcing the third map where Liquid unceremoniously crushed them 16-4.

In the Finals, it took Overtime to determine the winner of map two as well but in the end, Aleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev simply couldn’t carry hard enough against the mouz team.

League of Legends

NA LCS

In the North American League of Legends Championship Series, the saga of Echo Fox continues with the team in 1st place despite losing their this week’s match against Team SoloMid. After 2-0ing the week, TSM rose in the rankings and now has a 6-6 record. Other teams, like Team Liquid, Clutch Gaming and 100 Thieves, share the third spot with 7-5 records, Cloud9 is second with 9-3. Counter Logic Gaming is still far removed from the top 4 projections afforded them by the analysts before the season began.

EU LCS

In the EU LCS, Team Vitality’s fall has been completed this week as the team dropped to third place, giving the top up to G2 Esports and their 8-4 record and the 9-3 Fnatic. Farther down the standings, teams are still sharing records for a clear tiered structure of the best teams, only there are three tiers: mid, bad, and crap.

In mid tier, we have 6-6 Misfits, Giants Gaming and Splyce. In bad, there are 5-7 FC Schalke 04 and Team ROCCAT, followed by the crap H2k-Gaming and Unicorns of Love with 4-8 records.

Dota 2

ESL One Katowice 2018

In Dota 2, the first Polish Dota 2 Valve Major has taken place over the last week and we have the winner — Virtus.pro, who took vengeance for an earlier loss against Vici Gaming to take home $400,000 USD.

Teams like Fnatic, Team Liquid, Team Secret and Evil Geniuses had their hopes dashed, as did Newbee and others.

Overwatch

Overwatch League Inaugural Season

The Stage Two has started this week and we got to see a glimpse of what the teams look like now, after getting to make some changes in-between stages.

It turns out that Philadelphia Fusion, Dallas Fuel, Seoul Dynasty and Houston Outlaws seem to be playing the best with 2-0 records, though some of that could possibly be chalked up to easier matchups.

At 1-1, we have Los Angeles Gladiators, New York Excelsior, London Spitfire and Los Angeles Valiant, with the rest of the teams, the Dragons, Mayhem, Shock, and Uprising, trailing at the bottom with 0-2.
